About 'nursing schools in pittsburgh'|Final Thoughts From Nursing School
Welcome to the only weekly sports debate found on Associated Content. Although we really don't debate. We simply answer a couple of questions. And a lot of the time we agree with one another. I digress. This is yet another edition of Experts and Clowns. Just when I try to get out, they pull me back in. That's a huge mistake, my friends, as I will be playing the role of judge, jury and executioner. This week's edition is an all-NCAA Tournament special. After all, this is the most wonderful time of the year. Without further ado, here is our distinguished panel. Brian Joura loves the smaller schools during March Madness and is crushed now that Coppin State no longer has a shot as winning it all. Sorry, Brian. Jake Emen will be taking a shot at Omaha. Just warning all of you ahead of time. Any complaints can be sent directly to him via his AC profile. Michael Grisso likes to come up with nicknames for all of us. Trust me when I say that you all should just call him "sir." He's a big fan of it. Nick Meyer wrote a sweet article about Penn State football that you all should read. Let's Go State. Which 5-12 match up is most likely to be an upset? Jake: I think any of the 5 seeds could fall in the opening round; none of those match ups is a bad pick for the annual 5-12 upset. Since I haven't filled out my bracket completely yet, I will say Michigan State vs. Temple. But George Mason has the moxie, Villanova can give anybody a tough game, and I'm not on the Drake hype train. Screw it, I'm picking all 4 number 12s to win their opening round game! Michael: Well it would have been #5 Notre Dame vs. #12 George Mason if N.D. wasn't used to being upset in the first round. I like #12 Villanova over #5 Clemson. They could easily have 2 more wins and 2 less losses if it weren't for some controversial calls during the year. Not to mention they played in what is still debated as the hardest conference to play in this year. Some may say Michigan State being upset by Temple after their A10 tourney win, but that won't happen, I'll guarantee that win. Drake is the real deal and Adam Emmenecker or however you spell his last name is sick for previously being a walk-on. Then of course Harangody for Notre Dame will be too much for the Patriots. Villanova 70 Clemson 66 Nick: I actually picked all five seeds for a change this year but I think the one with the best chance is Western Kentucky. Drake has a good squad but when the outside shots aren't falling they could be in trouble. WKU has the quickness on the perimeter to get in their faces and alter their shots and they also have a go-to guy in Courtney Lee who can take over and win them the game. Brian: The 5-12 game is usually where we see an upset because the fifth-seeded team was a previously high-ranking team which fell on hard times and wasn't playing well down the stretch. Three of the #5 seeds finished with a 7-3 record in their final 10 games while the fourth team, Michigan State, finished 5-5. The Spartans were undefeated at home this year but only 8-8 in road and neutral games. Meanwhile, Temple comes in on a seven-game winning streak, including a win over St. Joes in the A-10 Championship Game. So pick the Owls for the upset. Jake loses a point for picking all four 12 seeds, as well as using the word "moxie." I agree with Brian and Michael so I'm hooking them up with one point each. Brian: 1 Michael: 1 Nick: 0 Jake: -1 Which regional site has the best first and second-round games? Brian: The Denver Regional with ND-George Mason, Washington State-Winthrop, Michigan State-Temple and Pittsburgh-Oral Roberts should have five really good games, with only Pittsburgh in the opening round being a blowout. I also like the Raleigh Regional, which is where I'll be. The Gonzaga-Davidson first-round game should be great and whichever team wins that one to face Georgetown in the second round should be an entertaining matchup. Indiana-Arkansas is a rare first-round matchup between schools which have an NCAA title under their belts and should be a good game, even if the winner has to get run out of the gym by UNC in the second round. Michael: Whoa, tough question, but after reviewing it would have to be the Midwest Region in Raleigh, North Carolina. Love the #7 vs. #10 matchup between Gonzaga and Davidson who has won 22 games straight and played tough throughout the year against North Carolina who they lost by 4, Duke by 6, and UCLA by 12 across the county. Stephen Curry is the real deal and is why the Wildcats could make some serious noise. The second round matchup of either Gonzaga/Davidson against G'town is a game that could be already a Sweet 16 matchup, which leaves me to believe the Hoyas got the worst #2 seed of the tournament. Nick: I have to go with the East. Something keeps telling me Indiana has a shot to beat North Carolina, but I might be crazy since they haven't played hard since Kelvin Sampson left them. Also in that region you have Butler and South Alabama in what should be a an interesting clash of slow-it-down vs. run-and-gun styles, and then Butler-Tennessee could be an epic game if that's what happens. That would be an intriguing matchup of great shooters vs. great athletes. Jake: If I had a ticket to any of the regional sites, I would be flying to Omaha. I never thought I'd choose going to Omaha, and that's coming from a 311 fan (cough, a band from Omaha). USC vs. Kansas State. OJ Mayo vs. Michael Beasley. The most highly touted recruit from the big market team vs. the likely number one draft pick from, well, Kansas State. That is great theatre and will make for a great game. Oh yea, and the winner gets Wisconsin and a chance to prove whether or not they can carry a team on their back. Sorry, Jake, but 311 sucks. They suck a lot. Still, I have to agree that the Midwest is the best region. Can Kansas make a Final Four run? What about those sensational freshmen? Will Georgetown be back? Can Wisconsin bring some respect to the Big Ten? And what about Davidson? Oh, the drama. Michael: 2 Jake: 1 Brian: 1 Nick: 1 Is Kansas for real this year or are they due for another tournament disappointment? Michael: Well if you've been one of the best teams of the year, run up and down the court in convincing fashion through the Big 12 tournament, they're definitely for real. As far as a disappointment it all depends on what is considered a disappointment. If they don't go to the final four? Not this year, especially with about 4 other teams in the Midwest bracket who have the make up of a final four team this year. Will they get to the finals? I don't think so, I believe having to travel up to Detroit, Michigan for the second week with possible teams like Villanova, G'Town, and Wisconsin as possible teams to play while there, home court advantage is definitely not in their favor like UNC who plays in Raleigh and Charlotte all the way to the final four. So in their minds it will be a disappointment if they don't win it all I'm sure, but in my mind once the Sweet 16 games come in, its anyones game this year. Jake: It depends on what you want to classify as "for real". Are they going to win the entire NCAA Tournament? No. Are they making it to the Final Four? No, I don't think so. But if making it to the Elite 8 is "for real", than absolutely they are. They won't even have a game until the Sweet Sixteen, and even then I expect them to get by their opponent, who I feel will be Clemson. Brian: I guess this depends on what would qualify as a disappointment. No team coached by Bill Self has ever advanced to a Final Four. Is it a disappointment if they lose in the Elite Eight? Because they might be able to get by Clemson but I don't see them getting past Georgetown. Nick: I think they're for real, they just seem to missing that special ingredient needed to go all the way again. Bill Self is a good coach but his teams have underachieved a bit in the tournament. Then again people thought the same of Lute Olsen and he eventually got over the hump. The Jayhawks' problems are the same ones that have plagued Duke in recent years: a lack of inside depth and the lack of a true star to get the ball to in the clutch. I'm the only person on this planet that believes Portland State will give Kansas a game. Just putting it out there. Now, as for this question, it appears that we're all in agreement that the Jayhawks will not be playing in San Antonio this year. Can't punish or reward any of you for that. Michael: 2 Jake: 1 Brian: 1 Nick: 1 Which #1 seed will be the first to be knocked out of the NCAA Tournament? Michael: I really think UCLA will be the first one out. They are a team that plays to the level of their opponents the majority of the time and with Kevin Love nursing back spasms who knows how big of a loss that is going to be if he can only play a portion of the time. UCONN is definitely a team that could surprise them in the Sweet 16 if Drake doesn't beat them first to get there. It will definitely be interesting. One more note, don't look past a team like Pitt taking down Memphis either. I don't care if the Tigers played in a weak conference, they had the toughest road schedule all year and won them all. Pitt is playing their best right now and with everyone healthy they look strong. Jake: All the number 1 teams will make it to the Elite 8 this year. UNC has the toughest road, but they are also the best team. I see Kansas falling in the Elite 8 to Georgetown, although Clemson could get things together and get Kansas out in the Sweet Sixteen. Memphis will also go down in the Elite 8, to Stanford. Brian: Memphis or Kansas? Kansas or Memphis? I'm tempted to go with Kansas after seeing Clemson play their hearts out in the ACC Tournament. But I guess I'll say the Jayhawks survive that game which means that Memphis will be the first one out when they lose to Pittsburgh in the Sweet 16. Nick: I am going to have to go with Kansas in a loss to Georgetown in the Elite 8. I don't see anyone on the Jayhawks who can slow down Roy Hibbert and the Hoyas have so many athletic defensive players that they can muck up the game and cause a lot of problems for Brandon Rush and company. Memphis is the real deal and has a fairly easy region while UNC and UCLA are both stacked teams that should be able to navigate through their brackets. Michael gets a point because I picked Connecticut to beat UCLA in the Sweet 16. That's right. I said it. I also see Memphis lasting longer than the Jayhawks in the tournament. Jake wavered in his answer so he gets half a point. Nick gets one point as I completely agree with him, leaving Brian out in the cold on this one. Sorry, Mr. Joura. Final Score: Michael: 3 Nick: 2 Jake: 1.5 Brian: 1 There you have it, boys and girls. Michael is our winner and shall be showered with praise and adoration while Brian will receive the ridicule of the entire sports nation...or the seven people reading this. Whichever. As always, you've all been fantastic. Enjoy the NCAA Tournament, brought to you by Pontiac. |
